Women’s Empowerment Symposium
This power packed day of motivational speakers was the first of its kind for St. Lucian women. It was a day of inspiration and enlightenment for all attendees. The keynote speaker was television personality Star Jones, former Miss Universe Wendy Fitzwilliam, American Book Author Christine Schaap, Motivational Speaker and Radio show personality Angie Montoute and Country Manager for CMMB Carol Eleuthere-Jn. Marie. Many relevant topics affecting women today were covered and included: Midlife transitions, Developing your life’s purpose / Turning dreams into reality, Having it all; looking into the different aspects of a woman’s life i.e. career, husband, children, emotional wellbeing, health and happiness, money management, the new single mother, life’s lessons learned the hard way.
In attendance were St. Lucia’s Governor General Dame Pearlette Louisy and the Prime Minister’s wife Mrs. Rosalia King.
“Women have the ability to empower each other through personal examples of challengers faced and battles won. I was pleased to participate in a program that encouraged women to stand in the space God created for them. That is Women’s Empowerment at its best…”
“Anything which facilitates the empowerment and positive development of women filters out to the society as a whole. One of the themes covered at the Women’s Empowerment Symposium 2010, the premise that ‘Women Can Have It All’, is something which has eluded women for generations, particularly black women and by extension Caribbean women. It is my belief therefore, that more conferences of this nature are of paramount importance in inspiring and motivating women to believe that it is in fact possible for them to have it all. In order for our women, who are the backbone of our society, to develop holistically it is important they achieve balance of mind, body and soul. The conference highlighted that it is possible for her to achieve success in a male dominated world, have a family, healthy relationships, well rounded children, thus auguring well for the positive development of society.”
“I hope the ladies felt encouraged to face their own personal disappointments in life and not be afraid to dream new dreams, and the best way to do that is to work together – have the courage to share their stories with others and the compassion to listen to other women’s stories – so they can build one another up, provide mutual accountability, and encourage each other to live the life each woman here was uniquely created to live!”
Praise for the Women’s Empowerment Symposium
“As I entered the designated area for the Womens’ Empowerment Symposium I immediately felt awe-inspired. The dimly lit registration area was the first point of entry – complete with candles, petals and prevailing scents – and lovely looking women – all creating an atmosphere of soaking in a soothing air bath…”
Ms. Tecla Fontenard, Communications Specialist, St. Lucia
“Travelling to St. Lucia for the day to attend the Women’s Empowerment Symposium was well worth the effort. Listening to the presentations made, and my own interactions with various women during the day, brought home to me the simple truth – we may be separated by water, but the issues faced by us as daughters, mothers, sisters, wives, lovers, professionals, politicians and corporate executives are all essentially the same. The Women Empowerment Symposium was thus for me, an acknowledgement of our “oneness”.
Ms. Sharon Christopher, Duty CEO, First Citizens, Trinidad & Tobago
“I attended the Women’s Empowerment Symposium anticipating a day of enlightenment , fellowship and uplifting. I got that and so much more. The speakers were obviously passionate about their topics, which were so well presented. It was wonderful being in a room of like-minded women, knowing that many of us are responsible for nurturing the minds and bodies of the next generation. Kudos to Lisa and her team for putting this together.”
Dr. Tanya Destang–Beaubrun, Integral Health Care Medical Clinic, St. Lucia
“Women wear so many hats and so often have to balance these hats at the same time – mother, daughter, partner, friend, confidante, mentor, student while they balance both home and career commitments. This power packed day of great motivational speeches from an all women line up touched on so many topics that are relevant to our daily lives and certainly brought home the point we can have it all. Thanks Milestone Team – you did a fantastic job with your delivery.”
Cheryl Renwick, Renwick & Company, St. Lucia
“I found this to be an excellent Seminar. It was perfectly suited to me for where I am at this point in my life. All the speakers were excellent and extremely informative. I particularly enjoyed Carole Jn Marie, and her topic “Money Management”. I have made my long list of “changes” and “to do’s” , and am tackling them one at a time. I definitely left the Seminar informed and empowered, as promised. Thanks Lisa!”
Penny Hackshaw, Hackshaw’s Boat Charters, St. Lucia
“The symposium was just what I needed to get me back on track, revisit my goals, and give me the push that I needed to focus accordingly. Two days on and I have already crossed 3 things off my personal “to do” list! Now that’s a milestone in itself! Thanks Lisa!”
